Hour Scented Candle

The scent that runs through the whole collection, finally given a room to fill. Iris first, powdery and cool and faintly metallic. Then white fig, softening the edges, green at the stem and sweet at the centre. Then ambrette underneath: musky, warm, close to skin, the note that keeps the whole thing from smelling like a hotel lobby.

Poured by hand into thick frosted glass with a fluted base, finished with a machined metal lid that lands with a weight you can hear. The coconut and soy blend burns cooler and cleaner than paraffin, and two cotton wicks pull a full, even melt pool from the very first hour, so it never tunnels, never runs wax down one side, and gives you the whole fifty hours rather than a narrow hole down the middle.

Light it when you start taking the day off, earrings out, hair down, phone face down, and it will still be going when you are done. Roughly fifty hours in the jar. A season of evenings.

Burn it out and the vessel is worth keeping. Wash the glass in warm soapy water, lift the last of the wax with a spoon of hot water, and it becomes a brush pot, a bud vase, or somewhere to put your rings at night.
